Nice, Day One

We left Cherbourg for Paris by train early Sunday morning, and were on the plane by early afternoon. It was cool and wet in Paris, making the arrival in warm and sunny Nice all the better! It was like stepping into a tropical paradise, after many days of cool winds and grey skies in Normandy. We checked into our hotel and decided right away to take an evening walk and enjoy the city. What a beautiful place!

-- Nice, on the southern coast of France, reminds me of her neighbor Italy in its architecture and warm Mediterranean colors. On our walk we made sure to go down the "Promenade des Anglais" and stop by the beach (cold water!). This was one of Daniel's favorite places to go when he spent four months here during college, on vacation... I mean, studying French. :) We noticed that, just like our beach in Vauville, the tide falling back and sweeping through the pebbles sounds like applause. The outdoor cafes were packed with people, enjoying the beautiful warm evening.
